Former Auburn All-American linebacker Kurt Crain has passed away, according to reports from Justin Hokanson of AuburnSports.com and Tommy Hicks of the Mobile Press-Register. He was 47 years old.

Crain was an All-American for Auburn in 1987 and led the team in tackles in 1986 and 1987. He amassed seven interceptions, three fumble recoveries, 324 tackles and four sacks in his career at the school, including 26 tackles against Georgia alone in 1986. He was also an All-SEC selection in 1986 and 1987, when he served as an on-field leader.

When his playing time ended, Crain transitioned into a coaching role, with his first coaching job coming at Auburn as a graduate assistant before moving on to Troy. Crain was hired to the South Alabama Jaguars as an assistant coach under Joey Jones in 2008, the first year that the school added a football program.

No further details surrounding Crain's passing are available at this time.
