LSU Proposing Death Valley South End Zone Expansion

The LSU Tigers already play in one of the world's biggest football stadiums. Distressingly, theirs remains only a five-digit-capacity building, however, so something must be done immediately.

Thank goodness, then, that a plan will soon be presented to the LSU Board of Supervisors that would add 60 suites, 3,000 club seats and 1,500 rabble seats above the current south end zone fixture, drawing Death Valley right near 100,000-seat capacity. The current video board in the middle of the section will be replaced by two, with one in each corner. It would be completed in time for the 2014 season.

The expansion would make this* (via And The Valley Shook) ...

... look more like this, according to a batch of renderings released by LSU:

Said athletic director Joe Alleva in a statement:

It is important to always have an eye on the future and this investment in our facilities is critical for the future of LSU athletics. When things are going well, you can move forward or you can fall behind. We are choosing to advance the athletics program so that it can remain a viable and successful part of the mission of our university.

* That's actually the north end zone, but they look just about the same as is.
