Backup Alabama quarterback Phillip Sims is headed elsewhere.

The Alabama Crimson Tide announced Friday that backup quarterback Phillip Sims is transferring out of the program, with no established destination just yet. Last year, Sims was the top backup to A.J McCarron, appearing in eight games to throw 28 passes, but he'll have little chance of taking over the top job any time soon.

His exit moves Phillip Ely up to the backup spot for now, with freshman Alec Morris coming in to compete for playing time.

AL.com reports the Virginia Cavaliers as a potential landing spot for Sims, who hails from Chesapeake. Rumors have been building around his old stomping grounds for a few months now. Keep an eye on all Old Dominion schools for the time being, I suppose.

Rated a four-star dropback quarterback by Rivals, Sims chose the Tide over a host of other offers.
