Former Maryland Terrapins offensive lineman Max Garcia is set to transfer to the Florida Gators, Rivals' Ryan Bartow reported Saturday. Garcia had narrowed his list to the Georgia Bulldogs, Wisconsin Badgers, USC Trojans and Mississippi Rebels in addition to the Gators.

Garcia reportedly favored Georgia early in the process, as he's a native of the Peach State. He exited Maryland at the same time as quarterback Danny O'Brien, who ended up transferring to Wisconsin. Garcia's most recent visit was to the Badgers.
He's started a number of games in his college career, and will have to sit out a year before he can play next.

Former Maryland Terrapins offensive lineman Max Garcia, who fled College Park at the same time as Danny O'Brien, has narrowed his list of potential landing places to five, telling the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he plans on making a decision by the end of April. He's visiting the Wisconsin Badgers this weekend.
Rounding out his top five are the Georgia Bulldogs, Florida Gators, Mississippi Rebels and USC Trojans. The Georgia native began his tour of the country with a spate of SEC visits, with the South Carolina Gamecocks and Vanderbilt Commodores also reportedly showing interest. Since then, he's expanded his range quite a bit, but the Atlanta paper still lists the Dawgs as the team to beat.
Wisconsin could also have a leg up, as they've obtained the services of O'Brien for next year, even though Garcia won't be eligible to play in 2012. He started all 12 games for Maryland last year.

Quarterback Danny O'Brien isn't the only big-name Maryland Terrapins transfer who's drawn interest from a number of top-tier programs. Let's not forget Max Garcia, a former three-star offensive tackle with the Georgia Bulldogs, Mississippi Rebels, Florida Gators and South Carolina Gamecocks among his reported suitors.
But the Georgia native apparently isn't just looking for a return to the Southeast, judging by his latest tweet:

That's an image of a road map from Maryland to Los Angeles, in case it's not loading for you.
Surely picking up the top 2013 quarterback recruit, Max Browne, doesn't hurt USC's chances of wooing Garcia. He rated his visit to UGA as "a 9 or 10," giving Lane Kiffin quite a mark to top, but if there's one thing Kiffin can do, it's impress a prospect.

The college football internet's favorite joke, only behind recommending Ron Prince for every possible leadership vacancy, is sending every available player to the Mississippi Rebels. Former coach Houston Nutt became infamous for setting up a kind of shelter for wayward players, but new coach Hugh Freeze hasn't quite earned the same -- WELL, HOW DO YOU DO?
Ex-Maryland QB Danny O'Brien and LT Max Garcia will visit Ole Miss on Tuesday.

O'Brien would appear to be still interested in playing for his former offensive coordinator, now head coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores. Penn St. Nittany Lions coach Bill O'Brien has confirmed he's interested in O'Brien (the younger). And Garcia was reportedly drawing interest from literally more than half of the SEC East.
But, really, is there anywhere besides Ole Miss that these players could've landed? I mean, it's not official yet, and they haven't even visited Oxford, but can't you just feel fate drawing them all together?
All God's people are already saying amen.

The Maryland Terrapins three -- quarterback Danny O'Brien, offensive lineman Max Garcia, and linebacker Mario Rowson -- could end up playing for the Vanderbilt Commodores after all. Randy Edsall has freed the three departing Terps to transfer to Vandy if they so desire, reports Jeff Barker of the Baltimore Sun.
While it's not a done deal that they will rejoin James Franklin in Nashville, it would be a strong bet that at least one of them will. O'Brien seems to have made it clear he's very interested in Vandy, with his family planning to appeal Edsall's restriction, even if only to provide one more option. Garcia, meanwhile, has drawn interest from pretty much the entire SEC East.
The players are still restricted from playing for other ACC teams, according to Barker. That's the sort of restriction that actually at least makes competitive sense, whether it's fair to the athlete or not.

Maryland Terrapins coach Randy Edsall has decreed former quarterback Danny O'Brien can't transfer to a list of ACC schools and regional rivals that for some reason includes the Vanderbilt Commodores. Maryland and Vanderbilt don't play each other, so there's no competitive reason for Vandy to be on the list.
We've now heard from Edsall on the matter, though of course none of the good stuff about why Vanderbilt in particular was included. Via SB Nation DC, a transcript of Edsall's remarks on the subject of O'Brien being barred from transferring to specific schools:
We had stipulations in there, the same schools for all three of them (Max Garcia and Mario Rowson). So neither of the three were treated any differently than the other guys. Again, I'm not going to get into the names, the schools of what we put on there because as we talked to the players we said that was a situation where we would keep that amongst ourselves. But usually what will end up happening is there will be schools on there that you might compete against or if there's things that you feel might have taken place that you might put schools on that list. We have that prerogative to put schools on that list, the players have the prerogative that if they want to appeal that, they can appeal that as well.
Garcia is reportedly drawing interest from Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina, so surely Vanderbilt would've had an excellent chance of beating all three powerhouses for his services? And it's very important that Garcia be prevented from playing for Vanderbilt? Have you ever confused yourself with your own sarcasm?

So far, rumors of possible destinations for the latest crop of Maryland Terrapins transfers are lining up according to stereotype. Of course the Wisconsin Badgers and Mississippi Rebels want to import quarterback Danny O'Brien, and of course the SEC East is looking right past the star quarterback and making googly eyes at the big offensive lineman.
Max Garcia has the Georgia Bulldogs, Florida Gators, and South Carolina Gamecocks among his suitors, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The Dawgs may have the inside track, as he's from Georgia and has said he left Maryland in order to be closer to home.
Garcia can't transfer to Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Temple, UConn, or any ACC school, the AJC reports. You can deduce your own Randy Edsall-related rationale for each of the schools specifically named in that list.
The group also includes linebacker Mario Rowson. If everything continues, he'll be getting a call from Penn State shortly. Because Penn State has always loved linebackers and will always love linebackers, you see.

The Maryland Terrapins announced Monday that quarterback Danny O'Brien, along with offensive lineman Max Garcia and linebacker Mario Rowson, will transfer elsewhere. O'Brien and Garcia had been reportedly interested in transferring since last week, while Rowson is a surprise for many of us. This makes 12 transfers who've left since Randy Edsall took over.
Particularly harsh timing for the Terps, since O'Brien seemed to be one of the factors that helped Maryland land star receiver recruit Stefon Diggs. O'Brien hosted Diggs on a visit just before his weekend announcement. Whether this news will have any affect on Diggs remains to be seen.
O'Brien was named the ACC's 2010 Rookie of the Year before struggling as a sophomore under a new offensive coordinator. Talk will now resume of him playing at any number of SEC or Big Ten schools, with former coach James Franklin's Vanderbilt looking like a reasonable possibility. And Wisconsin's kind of got the importing-ACC-quarterbacks thing down.
People close to Danny O'Brien told me he'd be interested in Stanford, Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, Michigan St.. Wants stability, good conference
