Arkansas Razorbacks football coach Bobby Petrino had a 25-year-old athletic department employee named Jessica Dorrell on the back of his bike during his Sunday night wreck, according to police reports. But earlier in the week, the school released a statement that claimed Petrino was alone.
Here's that statement:
Coach Petrino was involved in a motorcycle accident on Sunday evening that involved no other individuals. He is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery. Our family appreciates respect for our privacy during the recovery and we are grateful for the thoughts of Razorback fans at this time.
It's feasible that the school wasn't made aware of Dorrell's presence. She was reportedly taken away in a separate vehicle before Petrino was driven to the hospital.
But if the university didn't know, why specify in the statement that the accident involved no other individuals? Does that seem like a natural thing to include in this sort of release? I don't know. I've never written one. Maybe it is.
Dorrell was photographed with Petrino earlier this year, though she only started her job at Arkansas a week ago. She's also apparently engaged to be married -- to a fellow Arkansas athletic department employee named Josh Morgan. Petrino is married and has children.
