The SMU Mustangs have parted ways with their athletic director. Steve Orsini was released by the school on Thursday.
The SMU Mustangs have been making big strides towards revitalizing their athletics programs in the past year. They have completely overhauled their basketball program and have hired new head coach Larry Brown in an attempt to make an impact on the national scene. The football team -- which famously received the "death penalty" by the NCAA in 1987 -- is on the verge of moving to the Big East. It appears that with these new and important changes, the school will also be doing some housecleaning in its front office.
Mike Wilkening of Pro Football Weekly reported that SMU announced on Thursday that they have parted ways with athletic director Steve Orsini.
According to Art Garcia, who is the Director of Athletic Communications at UT Arlington, an SMU release has stated that Orsini was "released effective immediately" and that no other information was given.
