The 2014 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at the Georgia Dome will feature the Alabama Crimson Tide and West Virginia Mountaineers. There were prior reports that the matchup was close to a "done deal," and Brett McMurphy of CBSSports.com tweets that it is now official. Via @McMurphyCBS:
It's official: Alabama vs. West Virginia in Atlanta Aug. 30, 2014 in the Georgia Dome at Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game
— Brett McMurphy (@McMurphyCBS) May 17, 2012
The annual game in Atlanta has generated some of the top non-conference early-season matchups, consistently landing some of the biggest programs in the game. The 2012 edition features an SEC vs. ACC doubleheader, pitting the Tennessee Volunteers against the N.C. State Wolfpack and the Auburn Tigers against the Clemson Tigers.
West Virginia and Alabama have never played each other. While plenty of players will come and go between now and 2014, Nick Saban's defense against Dana Holgorsen's offense should provide an exciting show to open the season.
