Star Clemson Tigers wide receiver Sammy Watkins was reportedly arrested early Friday morning, according to South Carolina's WSPA News. The reason for the arrest isn't apparent yet, and WSPA has only the scantest details on the situation for the time being:

Chief Dixon would only confirm Clemson University Police booked Watkins into the city's holding facility.

Since Dixon's department didn't make the arrest, Dixon wouldn't confirm why Watkins was arrested and said any additional information would have to come from the Clemson University Police Department.

Watkins enters 2012 set to again be one of the nation's best wide receivers. As a freshman in 2011, he produced 1,225 yards and 12 touchdowns while helping Clemson to an offensive turnaround and an ACC title. More to come on this one, I'm sure.
