Mark Richt Has Lost Control Of 1901 Georgia Football

Stay connected with SB Nation

A gem uncovered by the Athens-Clarke County Library on the prospects of Georgia's 1901 team:

A good number of the old men are going to return, and there are some good new men coming... The truth of the matter is Georgia has won the admiration of the college men of the south by her sportsmanlike conduct. With a weak team, incurring heavy defeats, she still kept her contracts and played every game scheduled, and the men composing the team stuck by her to the last. Such conduct as this is more likely to draw men to Georgia.

Georgia finished 1-5-2 that year, but the next time you hear somebody complain about hyped incoming freshmen, assure your associate there's nothing new under the sun.
