The jury selection phase of the Jerry Sandusky trial began Tuesday, with nine of the eventual 16 being picked. These include a current Penn State student who works for the athletic department and who was once coached by the man who eventually turned Sandusky in, a former Penn State soil science professor, and at least one Penn State alum. Another had a cousin who played football for the Nittany Lions.
Needless to say, this is a tough pool to pick from. That's the unique challenge of trying a case in a town as tied to an institution as State College is. There were plenty who were nixed, however: Each side struck five potential jurors on Tuesday.
Proceedings will continue Wednesday, with the trial beginning on Monday even if the entire jury is set on Day 2.
