SB Nation Preseason All-Americans 2012: Robert Woods, David Amerson Join

The SB Nation Preseason All-America Team now sort of has a passing game, thanks to the votes sent in by our many tremendous college football blogs.

The next installment in SB Nation's Preseason All-America Team lineup: pass-catchers and defensive backs. Now all we need is somebody to throw the ball and some guys to kick it and stuff, plus somebody to coach the whole operation, and we can take the field against somebody else's preseason All-America team!

Receivers

When putting together this ballot, I didn't constrict our voters to a set number of backs and receivers. But based on the way it worked out, we're running with two backs and three wide outs most of the time. With more on our No. 1 receiver, here's Joey Kaufman of Conquest Chronicles:

For obvious reasons, Robert Woods' health will remain interesting to monitor this season. Though breaking a Pac-12 record for single-season receptions in 2011, Woods was just 75 percent because of an ankle injury, according to Lane Kiffin. So on the one hand, if 100 percent this fall, there's the distinct possibility Woods could eclipse his numbers from a year ago - 111 catches, 1,292 yards and 15 touchdowns. Or, with the emergence of Marqise Lee, a preseason Biletnikoff Award candidate in his own right after catching 73 passes for 1,143 yards and 11 touchdowns a season ago, Woods could see a drop in production as USC spreads the ball around. Though, he should remain Matt Barkley's primary target.

Our complete receiving corps:

Robert Woods, USC

Marquess Wilson, Washington State

Sammy Watkins, Clemson

Honorable mentions: Tyler Eifert, Notre Dame; Tavon Austin, West Virginia; Kenny Stills, Oklahoma; Marqise Lee, USC; Jake Stoneburner, Ohio State

Defensive Backs

Good thing we didn't close the polls until just after Tyrann Mathieu was kicked off LSU! However, there's one guy who definitely would've made our squad, no matter who else was or was not suspended. Here's Backing The Pack's Steven Muma with more:

David Amerson picked off 13 passes in 2011--two of which he returned for touchdowns--and set an ACC record in the process. That still seems impossible, no matter the circumstances. Amerson was lucky, of course. He was also a clever and ruthlessly efficient opportunist. In terms of tangible results, it all came together for him. He will most likely be a better player in 2012 and won't come close to matching that INT total. Probably won't come close. It's hard to rule out a kid who has football magnets for hands.

David Amerson, N.C. State

Eric Reid, LSU

T.J. McDonald, USC

Johnthan Banks, Mississippi State
