Danny O'Brien will be Wisconsin's starting quarterback in 2012. We know this because Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema told us so on Twitter:
Also had so many questions about our QB situation that want everyone to know we are going to start Danny O'Brien in our opener against UNI.
— Bret Bielema (@BretBielema) August 20, 2012
O'Brien transferred to Wisconsin from Maryland in the offseason, giving Bielema his second straight big-ish name transfer quarterback from an ACC school. O'Brien has significantly less on his resume than N.C. State transfer Russell Wilson, who led the Badgers to the Rose Bowl in the 2011 season, but he beat out senior Curt Phillips and freshman Jon Stave for the starter's job.
Wisconsin opens its season on Sept. 1 at home against Northern Iowa, which should be a perfunctory entry exam for O'Brien. The Badgers' first game against a BCS conference foe comes the week after, when they travel to Oregon State.
