Miami Hurricanes freshman defensive back Vernon Davis is looking to be released from his scholarship, according to reports.
Miami Hurricanes freshman defensive back Vernon Davis is looking to transfer out of the football program before ever playing a single down. Apparently the young man has changed his mind about playing for the 'Canes, but the details on this story are lacking at the moment.
The Miami Herald is reporting that Davis could transfer as soon as Tuesday afternoon. Davis was one of eight defensive backs in the 2012 class, but he wasn't on the team's most recent depth chart released on Monday, although he was still on the roster. Davis reportedly let the Canes know he wanted to transfer this past Friday.
Davis was playing well in preseason camp, but Miami SB Nation blog The 7th Floor has at least four or five DBs playing ahead of him.
The Herald reached Davis' mother by telephone, but she said nothing is official and she'd rather allow her son to speak about his own situation. Davis was standout in high school at Miami Coral Reef.
