Ash, who is entering his sophomore year at Texas, threw for 1,079 yards in 2011 as a freshman. Ash threw four touchdowns for the Longhorns last year, while throwing eight interceptions. Though he struggled as a freshman, Ash is a year younger than McCoy, and is both bigger and stronger than McCoy.
If Ash does struggle in Texas's first few games, McCoy will almost certainly get a chance to prove that he is capable of leading the Longhorns. Until then, it's Ash's team.
Texas opens up the 2012 season on Sept. 1 at home against Wyoming.
