Arizona State will open its 2012 season Thursday against NAU.
After coaching Pittsburgh last season, Todd Graham will make his debut as Arizona State head coach Thursday when the Sun Devils host Northern Arizona University in the 2012 season opener.
Graham, who went 6-7 in his lone season at Pittsburgh, takes over for Dennis Erickson, who was fired after a 6-7 season in 2011. With Brock Osweiler now in the NFL, sophomore quarterback Taylor Kelly will be making his first collegiate start against NAU. Kelly's appointment as the starting quarterback came as a bit of a surprise, as he began fall camp behind Michael Eubank and Mike Bercovici.
Kelly will have plenty of support from the running game, including senior Cameron Marshall. Marshall led ASU last season with 1,050 yards and 18 touchdowns. Marshall is joined in the backfield by Jamal Miles and Kyle Middlebrooks.
Northern Arizona, an FCS team, went 4-7 last season. This will be the second straight year it has opened its season against a Pac-12 team. It lost 41-10 to Arizona to begin its 2011 season.
