South Carolina Gamecocks starting quarterback Connor Shaw is expected to play next week against the East Carolina Pirates, as Heath Cline of 107.5 The Game reports. A staff member in the Gamecocks' athletic department expressed his optimism regarding Shaw's status after Thursday's season opener:
SC athletic department staffer told me they think right now Connor Shaw will be okay to go next week.

On Thursday, Shaw appeared to injure his shoulder in the team's opener against the Vanderbilt Commodores. The quarterback was forced to sit out temporarily while training staff treated the injury, eventually returning after Vanderbilt had taken the lead.
Even with the injured shoulder, Shaw managed to bring the Gamecocks back for a 17-13 victory, keeping the team's perfect season in tact through one week. The junior was noticeably uncomfortable with his shoulder even while leading the comeback, though, so the team will presumably be cautious.
