Oklahoma State walked away with the biggest blowout of the first week in college football, as they dominated Savannah State 84-0 in Stillwater, OK on Saturday night.
The Cowboys controlled the game from the moment the ball was kicked off, jumping to a 35-0 lead in the first quarter after two Joseph Randle rushing touchdowns and three Jeremy Smith touchdowns. OSU would extend the lead to 49-0 with Demond Roland adding two more rushing touchdowns in the second quarter.
With OSU putting mostly backups and reserves on the field in the second half, the Cowboys had no trouble extending the lead to 84-0 thanks to two J.W. Walsh passing touchdowns and another dominating performance on the ground.
For the game, OSU rushed for 395 yards on 42 carries and nine touchdowns on the ground. The Cowboys outgained Savannah State 682 yards to 139 in the game, with the Tigers finishing with more penalties (12) than first downs (8).
Box Score Hero: OSU starting quarterback Wes Lunt was 11-for-11 for 129 yards before being pulled when the blowout was obviously in progress.
Rankings Ramifications: Depending on how serious a football program the voters consider Savannah State has, OSU could move up the rankings based on this blowout but will likely stay around the No. 19 range.
But Did They Cover? As crazy as it sounds, since OSU was favored by 58 points, the Cowboys easily covered the spread.
