South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier is one win shy of 200 for his collegiate career, a milestone he can reach Saturday night when his No. 8 Gamecocks host the UAB Blazers.
Only three active coaches have more wins than Spurrier: Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer (253), Texas' Mack Brown (229), and Nevada's Chris Ault (227).
Now in his eighth season at South Carolina, perhaps Spurriers' once-innovative offensive ways have started to rub off on the Gamecocks. Last week, South Carolina threw for 397 yards in a 48-10 win over East Carolina, the most since Spurrier took over the program. Such passing numbers were once common when he ran the Fun N' Gun offense in Florida in the 1990s.
"It was better than what we've done in a long time," Spurrier said earlier this week. "But it was nice to just get the ball out. You don't how many passes I've called here when the ball didn't get out."
Garnet and Black takes a look at what fans can expect to see from the offense at UAB (0-1) this week, but it likely won't be enough for the Gamecocks (2-0) and what has shown to be a good defense so far.
Game time, TV channel: 7 p.m. ET, Fox Sports South
