The Nebraska Cornhuskers defeated the Arkansas State Red Wolves, 42-13, for their second win of the season on Saturday in Lincoln but had to watch head coach Bo Pelini leave in an ambulance with flu-like symptoms.
The game was never close as the Cornhuskers opened up a 28-3 halftime lead behind the play of quarterback Taylor Martinez, running back Ameer Abdullah and wide receiver Kenny Bell.
Abdullah finished with 167 yards on 30 carries and two touchdowns while Bell had three receptions for 71 yards and two touchdowns. All four of Abdullah and Bell's touchdowns came in the first half.
Martinez finished 13 of 14 for 180 yards and two touchdowns while adding 52 yards on the ground on 11 carries.
The Cornhuskers defense held the Blue Wolves to only 285 total yards, including 138 yards passing. Blue Wolves quarterback Ryan Aplin struggled all day, finishing only 16 of 30 passing.
The Cornhuskers move to 2-1 on the season and the Blue Wolves drop to 1-2.
Box Score Hero: Abdullah was dominant on the ground with 167 yards on 30 carries and two touchdowns. Martinez was solid but the ground game truly shined.
Rankings Ramifications: The Cornhuskers aren't ranked and beating a team like Arkansas State won't change that. But it's always good to get a win on the voters' minds.
But Did They Cover? The Cornhuskers were 24-point favorites and more than covered the spread.
