The BYU Cougars and the Utah Utes had an absolutely wild finish that has to be revisited from last night. BYU was down three and pinned inside their own 20. But then Riley Nelson found Cody Hoffman wide open downfield on 4th-and-11 for 46 yards, setting up a long field goal attempt to try and send the game into overtime.
Here are the full video highlights of the frenetic final few seconds (with a bonus botched Utah punt that brought BYU back into it before that bizarre final drive).
However, BYU tried to attempt one more throw with time running down, and it looked as if time expired. Cue the Utah student Section, who didn't waste any time rushing the field. And they did so with a crib!
The referees would review the clock though, and it turned out the football ended up hitting the ground with one second left. So BYU then tried a field goal, and the Utes then blocked the kick. Unfortunately, the student section thought the play was dead the moment the kick was blocked, and rushed onto the field from the sidelines where they had been waiting for the final play to end.
Naturally, the Utah fans invading the field invited a 15 yard penalty, and set up a more makeable kick. So BYU was definitely going to take advantage of a third chance at life right?
DOINK! Gotta love the premature BYU holder celebration too.
Talk about the Holy War with BYU fans at Vanquish The Foe, and with Utah fans at Block U.
