USC Vs. Hawaii: Marqise Lee Dominates In First Game Of Season

USC dominated Hawaii Saturday night and got a standout performance from wide receiver Marqise Lee. The Warriors had no answer for Lee who finished with 10 catches for 197 yards and a touchdown and also threw in a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown for good measure.

SB Nation's USC blog Conquest Chronicles highlights Lee's night including a quote from Lane Kiffin who says that Lee could be the best ever one day.

As if it were ever in doubt, Lee's talent was displayed on the first snap of the game in a 75-yard scram to the end zone. He ended up with 10 grabs for 191 yards and a score. He and Matt Barkley had it going last night. But the sophomore showed his chops in the return game, taking a kickoff, which followed Hawaii's sole touchdown, 100 yards to make the game 42-7. After the game, coach Lane Kiffin commended his star, stating, "He'll be the best ever (one day)." With games like last night, it's hard to disagree with Kiff.

Lee is a 6-foot-1 sophomore who combines with quarterback Matt Barkley to give the Trojans a dynamic passing attack. As a freshman, Lee hauled in 73 passes for 1,143 yards and 11 touchdowns. His performance on Monday puts him in position to eclipse those numbers as a sophomore.

Top 25 Rankings Changes: Alabama Could Replace USC At No. 1 After Michigan Demolition

The No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide had the most impressive victory of the weekend with their dismantling of the eighth-ranked Michigan Wolverines. In the only matchup of top-10 opponents, Alabama clearly proved they were the superior side with their 41-14 victory; Michigan, meanwhile, will probably be taking a tumble down the polls.

Alabama's victory will probably be enough to propel them past the USC Trojans to the top of the polls. USC had a strong win against Hawaii, but the victory by the Trojans lacks the prestige of the titanic Alabama-Michigan contest. It's likely that USC will be looking up at Alabama come the release of the Week 2 polls.

Another potential move in the rankings could be between the fourth and fifth spots in the poll. Oklahoma had an unimpressive 24-7 victory over UTEP, while Oregon obliterated Arkansas State with a 50-point first half and cruised to a 57-34 victory. The incredible early offensive proficiency by the Ducks might be enough to swap them with the Sooners at the fourth spot.

VIDEO: USC Vs. Hawaii Highlights Feature Marqise Lee Heavily

The USC Trojans played really well in their 49-10 opening weekend victory over the Hawaii Warriors. Matt Barkley completed over 60% of his passes for an average of 9.1 passing yards per attempt, and threw four touchdowns, including two to Robert Woods and another to Randall Telfer.

The two main highlights of the game were from Barkley's number one target in Trojan wide reciever Marqise Lee. On the first play of the game from scrimmage, Barkley found Lee on a short comeback, but then Lee juked the Hawaii cornerback to the inside before pulling it back to the sideline, and then took off for 70 yards to put USC up 7-0. Lee then took a kickoff early in the second half that saw him receive great blocking on special teams. Lee did the rest, turning on the jets, exploding through the open hole and hitting the end zone without trouble.

Lee finished with 10 receptions for 187 yards and the 100 yard kickoff return to give him 287 all-purpose yards on the day. You can see some snippets of Lee's great day from the official USC football YouTube channel above and via ESPN's highlights below.

USC Vs. Hawaii Final Score: No. 1 Trojans Dominate, 49-10

The Associated Press poll's number-one ranked USC Trojans dominated from start to finish in a 49-10 win over the Hawaii Warriors on Saturday night in Los Angeles. The Trojans sprinted out to a 35-0 halftime lead and never looked back.

USC scored on the very first play of the game, as wide receiver Marquis Lee took a screen pass from Matt Barkley 75 yards for a touchdown. The Trojans would score often and in various ways throughout the night, including an interception from Hayes Pullard that he returned 27 yards for a score late in the first quarter.

Silas Redd rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown in his USC debut after transferring from Penn State. Barkley hit the bench in the fourth quarter after passing for 351 yards and four touchdowns. Duke transfer Sean Schroeder was 25-40 for 213 yards and one touchdown for Hawaii in the loss.

Box Score Hero: USC WR Marquis Lee, who finished with 290 total yards. Lee caught 10 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown, and also returned a kickoff 100 yards for a score.

Rankings Ramifications: USC should stay atop the AP poll and keeps pace with Alabama in the coaches poll.

But Did They Cover? Surprisingly, no. The line opened at 37, but as money apparently still came in on USC, it ballooned to 43, which USC couldn't cover.
