Prior to their loss to the Irish, the Spartans defeated Boise State by 4 points to open the season, and easily dispatched of Central Michigan in Week 2. However, Michigan State ran into a spirited Notre Dame defense, and just could not get anything going. The Spartans' loss was their first in their past 16 home games. After running all over the Broncos in the opener to the tune of 210 yards, running back Le'Veon Bell has now been held under 100 for two consecutive games.
Meanwhile, EMU is off to an 0-3 start, including a 31-14 loss to FCS Illinois State in Week 2. Last week, the Eagles were crushed by Purdue, 54-16. EMU's strongest asset is probably its running game, as the Eagles have gained 452 yards in three games, which works out to just more than 150 yards per game. That's good for 78th out of 120 FBS teams.
