Atlantic Coast Conference foes square off when No. 16 Virginia Tech hosts Georgia Tech under the lights on Monday, Sept. 3.
The Hokies ended their 2011 season on a few sour notes; first getting demolished by Clemson in the ACC Championship game, 38-10, and then losing a tight 23-20 overtime contest to the University of Michigan in the BCS's Sugar Bowl to finish their campaign at 11-3.
On the other sideline, the Yellow Jackets also concluded last season with back-to-back losses. An out-of-conference tilt with the University of Georgia resulted in a 31-17 defeat, and Georgia Tech went on to drop the Sun Bowl to the Utah Utes, 30-27, in, like Virginia Tech, an overtime loss.
Last season the Hokies, playing at home, bested the Yellow Jackets, 37-26, on Nov. 10.
Virginia Tech junior Logan Thomas returns at quarterback, while senior Tevin Washington will again be under center running Georgia Tech's multi-faceted attack.
Game time, TV channel: 8 p.m. ET, ESPN
Point spread: Virginia Tech favored by 7
