College Football Rankings, Week 2: Coaches' Poll Dumps LSU For Alabama

The USA Today Coaches' Poll entered Week 1 with LSU at No. 1 ahead of Alabama and USC, but a trampling of No. 8 Michigan by the Tide means Nick Saban's crew sweeps the polls this week. LSU dips to No. 3 by a narrow margin, with USC having beaten a slightly better opponent in Hawai'i than LSU did in North Texas.

Oregon and Oklahoma switch spots, as do Florida State and Georgia, just as they did in the AP Top 25. West Virginia and South Carolina tied in the AP, but here WVU gets the clear edge.

2012 College Football Rankings, Week 2: AP Top 25 Jumps Alabama Over USC

The Alabama Crimson Tide have reclaimed the top spot in the Associated Press Top 25 after USC held it for just one week. They're followed by USC, LSU, Oregon and Oklahoma in the top five.

Entering Tuesday, the big question regarding the polls was whether Bama's convincing win over No. 8 Michigan would be enough for the Tide to overtake No. 1 USC, which dusted Hawai'i. Some had also wondered whether No. 5 Oregon's blowout of Sun Belt champ Arkansas State meant the Ducks could swap spots with No. 4 Oklahoma, which didn't exactly overwhelm UTEP. It appears these things happened.

Early on, the BCS computers also might be leaning Alabama's way, as indicated by Jeff Sagarin's BCS-approved formula results.

The full AP Top 25:

Rank Team Record Points
1 Alabama (45) 1-0 1481
2 USC (11) 1-0 1435
3 LSU (4) 1-0 1382
4 Oregon 1-0 1295
5 Oklahoma 1-0 1170
6 Florida State 1-0 1135
7 Georgia 1-0 1083
8 Arkansas 1-0 992
9 South Carolina 1-0 980
9 West Virginia 1-0 980
11 Michigan State 1-0 915
12 Clemson 1-0 788
13 Wisconsin 1-0 664
14 Ohio State 1-0 634
15 Virginia Tech 1-0 604
16 Nebraska 1-0 603
17 Texas 1-0 584
18 Oklahoma State 1-0 558
19 Michigan 0-1 446
20 TCU 0-0 355
21 Kansas State 1-0 339
22 Notre Dame 1-0 198
23 Louisville 1-0 190
