It took a pair of lightning delays for officials to finally call off the slaughter underway Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium, where No. 6 Florida State needed less than three full quarters to defeat the Savannah State Tigers, 55-0, the second-straight humiliating loss the Tigers have suffered to a highly-ranked Football Bowl Subdivision team.
Seminoles quarterback E.J. Manuel had his way with the Tigers' defense, completing 11-of-13 passes for 161 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, good for a 264.8 passer rating. Meanwhile, Florida State ballcarriers combined for 167 yards rushing on 23 carries, a 7.3 yard average.
Savannah State was completely outclassed by the Seminoles, mustering only 28 yards of total offense on 33 plays. Last week, the Tigers were annihilated by No. 18 Oklahoma State, 84-0. Savannah State will receive a reported $860,000 for enduring the two beatdowns, which will go a long way towards meeting its athletic department's $5.1 million budget.
Box Score Hero: In keeping with this game's theme, the easy winner is Tigers quarterback Antonio Bostick, who finished 2-for-15 with nine yards passing. For those who don't like arithmetic, that's good for 0.6 yards-per-attempt, a 13.3 percent completion percentage and a 18.4 passer rating. And that's without throwing an interception. So he's sort of a Miltonian antihero.
Rankings Ramifications: Ha! Seriously, Florida State should stay in the top ten in next week's polls.
But Did They Cover? Amazingly, Savannah State did cover the 68-point spread.

Next Week's Schedule: Florida State will play its conference opener at home against Wake Forest on Sept. 15 at noon. Savannah State gets a week off before hosting North Carolina Central on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
