College Football Rankings: LSU Could Replace USC At No. 2

Could the LSU Tigers move up after their thorough beatdown of the Washington Huskies in Baton Rouge? LSU did their best to prove they should get a bump in the rankings by stifling Washington's offense to under 200 yards. LSU compiled over 400 yards on their own, and methodically grinded Washington's defense into pulp.

The team above them won handily, but not without their own struggles. The USC Trojans allowed the Syracuse Orange to hang around for much of the game, and it could be debated that Ryan Nassib played just as well as Matt Barkley by throwing for 322 yards and two touchdowns (Barkley threw for only 187 yards, but also had six touchdowns). If you had to look at the two teams, LSU's win over a top conference opponent like Washington looks far more impressive than either of USC's first two wins.

There might not be too much movement in the AP Top Ten other than Arkansas falling out of it after their upset to Louisiana-Monroe, but LSU makes a decent case after their dominance in Baton Rouge that they're more worthy of being the second-ranked team as opposed to USC. Could it very well be Alabama and LSU at the top of the polls once again this Sunday afternoon?

Washington Vs. LSU Final Score: LSU Stifles Huskies, 41-3

The third-ranked LSU Tigers dominated from start to finish on Saturday night, downing the Washington Huskies 41-3 in Baton Rouge.

LSU's defense held Washington to just 183 yards of total offense, including just 26 rushing yards. This gave the Tigers an advantage on offense, exploiting good field position to the tune of 41 points.

Washington held what looked to be two sure LSU touchdown drives to field goals in the second quarter, keeping the Huskies in the game with a 20-3 halftime score. But LSU used a punishing run game in the third quarter to extend the lead to 34-3. Alfred Blue led the Tigers' rushing attack with 101 yards on 14 carries. Kenny Hilliard, Michael Ford and Spencer Ware combined for another 136 yards on the night.

Box Score Hero: Zach Mettenberger, LSU QB. While not a flashy night, Mettenberger posted a super-efficient line of 12-18 passing for 195 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.

Rankings Ramifications: LSU's performance certainly bodes well for them and they shouldn't fall. There is some possibility that LSU could jump USC for the two-spot, as the Trojans struggled to put away Syracuse for quite a while.

But Did They Cover? LSU easily covered the 23.5-point line.

That says "SWAG." Of course it does. Considering how the Huskies' game against LSU is going, it should say "RUN FOR YOUR LIFE." Too long?
