GAME NOTES: The UCLA Bruins will try to put an end to their losing ways this weekend, as they invade Corvallis to take on the Oregon State Beavers in Pac-10 play at Reser Stadium.

Following a 3-0 start, that included a win at Tennessee, the Bruins appeared greatly improved from last year's 4-8 club. Things however, took a turn for the worse once Pac-10 play started, as UCLA has gone on to drop its last four outings. Most recently, the Bruins were handled at Arizona, 27-13, last weekend, as they fell to 1-2 on the road.

As for the Beavers, they delivered USC its lone loss last season, but the fourth-ranked Trojans exacted their revenge with a 42-36 victory in last weekend's meeting. OSU has nothing to be ashamed about, losing by just six points to a highly ranked club, but its two-game win streak did come to an end. Now at 4-3 overall and a level 2-2 within the conference, the Beavers return back home where they have posted two wins against the same amount of losses.

OSU defeated UCLA, 34-6, at the Rose Bowl last season to snap a five-game slide to the Bruins, who still hold a 39-14-4 lead in the head-to-head series.

The Bruins have had very little success on offense this season and are averaging only 296.1 total ypg, including a mere 109.3 ypg on the ground. UCLA was dreadful in last weekend's loss to Arizona, as the offense failed to score a touchdown and managed only 211 total yards. Kevin Prince, Kevin Craft and Richard Brehaut all got at shot at quarterback, but they combined for just 146 yards on 15-of-35 tosses. Prince, who was the starter, missed some time this year with a broken jaw and he has struggled, completing just 52.6 percent of his throws with only two touchdowns against four interceptions. It isn't all Prince's fault though, as the Bruins haven't really been all that productive on the ground. Johnathan Franklin has had success with 469 yards and five touchdowns, but UCLA isn't committed to getting him the ball, as he averages just 13.6 carries per game. He had nine carries for 36 yards in last weekend's defeat.

UCLA's strength comes on the defensive side of the ball, where the team is limiting foes to 22.6 ppg and 339.7 total ypg. Last weekend, the Bruins were torched for 456 yards by Arizona, but the defense compensated by forcing five turnovers. The unit recorded three picks to bring its total to 12 in that department for the season, while Tony Dye also returned one of the team's two fumble recoveries for a touchdown. The Bruins still gave up too many yards, including 209 on the ground, but the defenses did outscore the team's offense. Rahim Moore continues to be a bright spot for this UCLA club, as he had two interceptions last weekend. The free safety obviously has a nose for the ball and he is among the top players in the nation with seven interceptions to his credit.

OSU may have lost to USC last weekend, but its offense showed it could hang with anyone around, gaining 482 total yards and scoring four touchdowns with only one turnover. The Beavers are now averaging a solid 400.9 total ypg on the season and they are doing so without hurting themselves, committing a mere five turnovers on the campaign. Quarterback Sean Canfield has enjoyed a productive season and he has completed an efficient 68.2 percent of his tosses for 1,734 yards, with 11 scores and just four picks. He was on top of his game last weekend, converting 30-of-43 tosses for 329 yards and three touchdowns. Joe Halahuni was his main outlet with nine catches for 127 yards, while James Rodgers went for 56 yards and a score on seven receptions. James Rodgers has been Canfield's go-to-guy this season and he heads the club with 50 catches, 600 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Brother, Jacquizz Rodgers, is even more dangerous and the tailback caught a touchdown last weekend and ran for 113 yards and another score. One of the most dangerous and versatile players around, Jacquizz Rodgers has rushed for 810 yards and 14 scores this season. He is also a big factor in the pass game, ranking second to James with 42 catches.

Defensively, the Beavers still have some work to do, as they need to improve on the 381.0 total ypg they are allowing. Against USC, OSU was beat for 429 total yards, with 227 coming on the ground. The Beavers are only giving up 116.1 ypg on the ground this season, so it was a bit of surprise to see them get shredded by USC's run game. The defense, however, did come up with a pair of interceptions and that is certainly a positive for a unit that has forced only eight turnover on the year. Unfortunately, the Beavers failed to come up with a sack and that has been an issue for the defense, which has recorded a mere four sacks on the campaign. Keaton Kristick is the team's top tackler with 38.5 on the season, but he had just 2.5 in last weekend's loss to USC.

OSU has a big advantage on offense in this one and its variety of weapons should help the Beavers get past a fading UCLA club this weekend.
