Florida Gators news is beginning to seep from Fort Gainesville, and not all of it agrees with the stomach of one UF supporter. Watch as Andy Hutchins of Alligator Army and estimated hundreds of other blogs are driven to the bottle (of pink bismuth) by Will Muschamp's quarterback report.

Florida Gators QB Trey Burton On Georgia's D: 'They Were About To Tap Out’

GatorZone.com's Scott Carter shares thoughts from Florida Gators coach Urban Meyer and others on how the Gators' newfound tempo boosted their offense against Georgia. Apparently Corch got the whole idea to run an up-tempo, no-huddle offense from watching the Oregon Ducks storm up and down the field with little regard for common courtesies, then had WR coach Zach Azzanni help install the thing due to his experience working with the Central Michigan Chippewas' track meet offense.

Burton saw some of the same signs of fatigue in Georgia’s defense Saturday.

"It’s awesome,’’ said Burton, who rushed for a career-high 110 yards and scored two touchdowns. "It’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever done on offense. We try to snap the ball as fast as we can. It wears the defense down. In the first half, they were done. They were about to tap out.’’

Not that Florida is anywhere near as proficient at running an up-tempo offense that's anywhere near as well-oiled or as fast as Oregon's, but look at it this way: Oregon's opponents prepare for that high-speed buzzsaw for a week in advance or more, and still they end up looking like they've been doing nothing but reading Gregg Easterbrook. How nightmarish would it be to find yourself in the middle of a no-huddle bombardment with no real warning beforehand?

I'm just trying to find an excuse for the Dawgs defense being so unprepared for the change, I guess.

In Surprise, Florida-Georgia Game Featuring Two Occasionally Competent Football Teams

The Florida-Georgia game is supposed to pit two of the SEC East's best teams year in and year out, but this is more like an out year for both mediocre teams. And today's first quarter did nothing to disprove that.

Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray was zero for five through the air with a pick. Florida had negative seven yards on its first two drives. And the two teams combined for zero first quarter points.

Since? It's almost been a good game.

Florida scored 21 points in the second quarter, opening up a playbook many had thought long lost with a variety of sweeps and downfield routes, and Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps, back after a five-game suspension and a foot injury, respectively, stepping up.

The second half has more or less belonged to Georgia, despite a cheeky moment from Gator Frankie Hammond, who got popped by Bacarri Rambo, then popped up from the turf to show Rambo he had the ball. The Bulldogs have 17 points, and Murray has been effective as both a passer and a rusher.

And then, just now, Florida's answered again, with Swiss Army freshman Trey Burton breaking free on an option run and scoring a touchdown on a 51-yard scamper up the sideline.

There are still ten minutes left in The Game Formerly Known As The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, and this one might go down in legend as one of the rarer things to happen in the rivalry: a really good, compelling game.

Trey Burton One-Ups Tim Tebow, Contributes To Spooky Bits Of Numerology

Trey Burton has been hyped as "the next Tim Tebow" by many around the Florida football team, and it's an intriguing tag, because Burton's played quarterback, Tebow-style rhinoceros-with-the-ball, and tight end for the Gators this year. Tonight, though, he one-upped Tebow.

Burton scored six touchdowns against Kentucky, a school record and one better than Tebow's finest performance. More impressively, he scored on each of his five carries and has scored on seven of his 11 carries this season. He may not be the next Tebow, but he's been obscenely efficient around the goal line for the Gators.

He's also the key to a bit of amateurish numerology that would make Dan Brown jealous.

Burton wears #8, and scored six touchdowns. Jeremy Brown, Florida cornerback, scored the other Florida touchdown on a pick return; he also wears #8. Kentucky's two scores both came on receptions by Chris Matthews, who, you guessed it, wears #8. There are probably no recorded stats on how many TDs have ever been scored by just one jersey number in a game, but this game's nine scores are probably high on that list. Also, Burton threw just one pass, and it was completed for 42 yards. As any Douglas Adams fan knows*, this makes Burton the answer to life, the universe, and everything. Hopefully, Alabama brings a towel or two next week.
