What do the Cleveland Browns need as they get ready to face the Ravens and the Steelers twice? Losing two of their starting defensive players. The Browns placed linebacker Scott Fujita and defensive end Emmanuel Stephens on the injured reserve today. Fujita broke his hand against the Bengals and will have surgery on it. Stephens injured his pectoral against the Bengals.

The Cleveland Browns signed defensive end Emmanuel Stephens off waivers from the Atlanta Falcons. Stephens, an undrafted free agent from the 2010 season, had seven tackles, one sack, one quarterback hit, and one tackle for a loss in the preseason. He was on Atlanta's practice squad all of last season.

We start things off today with some bad news -- running back Brandon Jackson was placed on the injured reserve with a toe injury, meaning he'll be out the entire season. He joins teammates Eric Steinbach and Reggie Hodges on that list.

It has been two weeks since my last training camp roster projection. What's changed since then? There have been some players who have suffered injuries, the rosters were already trimmed to 80 players, and there have been two additional preseason games to help evaluate players.

We have had two and a half weeks of action since my previous training camp roster projection. Since then, training camp has started and I think we all have a better grasp at which players are serious contenders to make the final roster. I didn't post a practice squad last time, but I'll indicate a few hopefuls this time around.

We are just one game in to the preseason, but the results for Colt McCoy and the West Coast Offense were positive. We'll see if things can go this smooth the rest of the preseason. For now, it might be time to start paying more attention to the 4-3 defense and making sure our front four get some positive work in.

How did Colt McCoy's first game in the West Coast Offense turn out? Not bad...not bad at all. The Cleveland Browns defeated the Green Bay Packers by a score of 27-17 in their first preseason game, but the thing everyone will take away from this game is the performance of the first-team offense under McCoy.
