Otis Smith seemed to have closed off the possibility of a quick Dwight Howard trade Wednesday, telling an Orlando press conference, "Our goal is to keep 12 in a Magic uniform for the rest of his career" ... "We're moving toward that end", indicating a desire to extend the perennial all-Star.

Tyson Chandler is one of the Nets' top free agent targets, and it may be that he's available because the Dallas Mavericks would prefer to preserve cap space for Deron Williams next summer.

Kris Humphries landed on Devin Harris' left knee midway in the third quarter, taking him out of the game and taking the air out of the Nets. Within minutes after Harris limped off to the locker room, a two-point game turned into a Knicks rout. The Nets seemed completely deflated, and the Knicks went on an extended run that put them up by 15.

Adidas threw a party at the NBA Store on 52nd Street in Manhattan Wednesday, introducing its new lightweight (and presumably more comfortable) uniforms. That wasn't hbe big story. It was the height difference in every photo between Brook Lopez, listed at 7'0", and Dwight Howard listed at an inch shorter. Lopez looks at least two inches taller.

It's too bad Brook Lopez didn't get a chance to play in the World Championships. Thursday's USA vs. Russia game would have provided an interesting match-up for New York hoops fans. Lopez would have gone up against Timofey Mozgov, the 7'1" Russian center who signed with the Knicks this summer.
