Aaron Mellette of the FCS Elon Phoenix will be participating in the 2013 Senior Bowl on Jan. 26 in hopes of improving his stock for the 2013 NFL Draft in April. Mellette is the first Elon football player to ever earn an invitation to the game held annually at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala.

Mellette has the production to back up the invite. He had 97 receptions for 1,408 yards and 18 touchdowns in 11 games as a senior last season. During his junior year, the 6-4, 220-pound wideout set Southern Conference records with 1,639 yards receiving off 113 receptions.

SB Nation's Dan Kader ranks Mellette has the No. 16 best wide receiver prospect in this year's draft, which would likely have him being selected in the later rounds of the draft. An impressive showing at the Senior Bowl, against BCS-level competition, would certainly boost his stock, however. Before the 2012 college football season, CBS Sports projected Mellette as a fifth-round draft pick. with the potential to develop into a first day choice in the mold of Brian Quick out of Appalachian State (selected No. 33 overall by the St. Louis Rams in the 2012 NFL Draft).
