2013 NFL Combine results: Johnthan Banks struggles early

USA TODAY Sports

Banks underwhelmed in the 40-yard dash with times of 4.59 and 4.64 seconds.

Mississippi State cornerback Johnthan Banks could be in for a tumble out of the first round after the second-team AP All-American ran an unofficial time of 4.59 seconds in the 40-yard dash, a slow time even for a taller cornerback like Banks. On his second run of the day, things didn't get any better for Banks as he validated his first time with a run of 4.64 seconds.

Entering the 2013 NFL Combine, Mike Mayock of NFL Network ranked Banks as the third cornerback on his board, just ahead of Washington's Desmond Trufant and Oregon State's Jordan Poyer. Considered by most to be the best defensive back in the draft, Dee Milliner cemented his spot at the top of the cornerback class with a blazing, unofficial time of 4.31 seconds.

Banks, 6-2, 185 pounds, finished his collegiate career with 16 interceptions and was named the winner of the Jim Thorpe Award after his senior season, recognizing the nation's top defensive back.

In the latest mock draft from SB Nation's Matthew Fairburn, Banks did not crack the first top 32 picks and was behind Rutgers cornerback Logan Ryan who was projected to go to the New England Patriots with the 29th selection.
