2013 NFL combine results: Safety 40-yard dash times and more

USA TODAY Sports

The safeties ran through the NFL Scouting Combine drills on Tuesday and Shamarko Thomas of Syracuse impressed scouts by putting up top numbers in nearly every category.

Kenny Vaccaro of Texas will be the top safety selected in the 2013 NFL Draft and there was little that could have changed that fact at the NFL Scouting Combine. Vaccaro put up solid numbers on Tuesday, but it was Syracuse's Shamarko Thomas that impressed scouts with strong performances in every drill he participated in.

Thomas ran the fastest 40-yard dash of all the safeties at 4.42 seconds, despite falling over at the finish line, had the most reps at the bench press, tied for the highest vertical jump and was one inch off the longest broad jump. Still, Thomas is not considered one of the top safety prospects, but these numbers should do wonders for his draft stock.

One of the top prospects who also put up big numbers was LSU's Eric Reid. Reid ran a 4.53 40 and tied for the best marks in the vertical and broad jump. His performance may lift him past Oklahoma's Tony Jefferson, previously ranked one spot ahead of Reid in Mocking the Draft's safety rankings. It was known Jefferson lacked in speed and size, but he didn't do anything to dispel those thoughts or improve his stock on Tuesday.
