Oakland Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie didn't get to make a draft pick until the third round in his first season on the job in 2012. He won't have so long to wait this time around, with the Raiders on the clock to make the third overall pick in 2013. There's a lot of buzz about the Raiders and quarterback Geno Smith, but with the West Virginia quarterback off the board in this SB Nation NFL Writers' Mock Draft, which direction will Oakland go?

Levi Damien: "The Raiders voided the contract of Richard Seymour and let his replacement, Desmond Bryant, walk in free agency. Tommy Kelly is on his way out. They brought in Vance Walker recently but still need another starter at defensive tackle. Floyd and Star Lotulelei both could stake a claim as top defensive tackle in this draft depending on which scout you ask. But with Lotulelei’s suspect heart condition, Floyd takes the lead. He fits perfectly at the three-tech in the NFL. That being said, the Raiders’ top priority will be trying to trade down to gain more picks. If they can’t do it, I expect Floyd to be the pick."
Here's our own Dan Kadar to break down the pick:
The Raiders have certainly had a suspect offseason, at least in regard to moves made on the defensive line. There are a number of defensive linemen the Raiders could target in the draft, which could leave general manager Reggie McKenzie free to try and trade down. But if they don’t, Floyd is an impact pick. He was consistently in the backfield at Florida, and continually got better as a run stopper. Floyd’s pass rush skills should come along given his athleticism and power, but he’s NFL-ready as a run stopper.
That's a wrap for day one of the 2013 SB Nation NFL Writers' Mock Draft. We'll be back at it tomorrow morning, with picks Nos. 4-6 scheduled to post on Friday. Stay tuned!
