Defensive end is one of the positions that's going to see names fly quickly off the board in April. With Bjoern Werner, Ziggy Ansah, and Dion Jordan all likely top-ten picks, franchises will be staking a lot on highly rated pass rushers.
But everybody's got their own opinions, and there's no clear consensus on who's the best at the defensive end spot. It's even tougher to figure that out since it's pretty fluid whether some players are 4-3 defensive ends or outside linebackers.
We took a look at rankings from a few sites to try to create some type of consensus. We're partial to Dan Kadar's rankings from Mocking the Draft, but also used CBS' rankings, The Sideline View's, Walter Football's, and Optimum Scouting's. Guys who side more towards OLB -- Dion Jordan, Barkevious Mingo, and Sam Montgomery -- were left off.
Guys got five points for a top ranking, four for second, etc.
1. Bjoern Werner, 23 (3 first-place votes)
2. Ezekiel Ansah 22, (2 first-place votes)
3. Damontre Moore 10
4. Datone Jones, 9
5. Alex Okafor, 8
6. Corey Lemonier, 3
7. Tank Carradine, 2
8. Margus Hunt, 2
As you can see, it's Werner, Ansah, and the field. Nobody's including anybody else amongst the top two defensive ends off the board, so expect them to be gone very early. A notable guy who didn't crack the top five of any list was Sam Montgomery, with others including John Simon and Malliciah Goodman.
