Cornerback might be the deepest position in the 2013 NFL Draft. But the market is not set, and the rankings are all over the board from draftnik to draftnik.
The latest news and notes surrounding the NFL Draft has to do with those very cornerbacks. Alabama's Dee Milliner's medical past is getting dragged out, while the results of Tyrann Mathieu's drug test have been revealed. Let's get to it.
Teams not concerned with Milliner's medical history
While there has been growing concern over the four surgeries Milliner has had during his football career, the Cleveland Plain-Dealer is reporting that the concerns are just a ploy by teams to bring Milliner's value down. The Alabama cornerback has been considered the top player at his position throughout the process, and that hasn't changed. If he checks out medically, there is no reason to think he will fall any farther than pick No. 13. He should be a top 10 pick.
Tyrann Mathieu passes drug test
For most players, a clean drug test is not news. But when Albert Breer tweeted that the Honey Badger's drug test for the NFL Scouting Combine came back clean, it certainly felt like a newsworthy item. After failing more than 10 drug tests in his career, perhaps Mathieu is finally on the right track.
Jets impressed with D.J. Hayden
Houston cornerback D.J. Hayden has been a hot name in the last few weeks. The scary heart injury he suffered had him off the radar, but since he has checked out medically, Hayden's talent has people buzzing about him as a late first-round draft pick. According to Randy McIlvoy of KPRC in Houston, the New York Jets have been impressed with Hayden. Given their new need at cornerback in the wake of the Darrelle Revis trade, that's an interesting item to keep an eye on.
