NFL Draft 2013: Marcus Lattimore says he'll be ready Week 1

JD Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

After tearing the ACL, LCL, and PCL in his right knee, the former South Carolina running back believes he will be ready to take the field for Week 1 of the NFL season.

As former South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore continues his impressive comeback from a gruesome knee injury, he believes that he will be ready to play by Week 1 of the NFL season. "I know my body. I know when I'll be ready to play. It takes time I know, but at the beginning at the season, I feel like I should be ready to go," Lattimore told USA Today on Tuesday.

Lattimore tore the ACL, LCL, and PCL in his right knee during his junior season and had surgery to repair all three ligaments on Nov. 2. It was the second major knee injury for Lattimore, who also tore the ACL in his left knee during the 2011 season. Despite his injuries, Lattimore is the No. 3 ranked running back in the SB Nation draft prospect rankings and No. 58 player overall.

He could be chosen anywhere from the second to fifth round in the 2013 NFL Draft, but wherever he lands, Lattimore believes he'll be ready. "I feel like, personally, I need three more months before I put some pads on," he said. Dr. James Andrews, who performed the knee surgery, has been impressed with Lattimore's recovery. According to the running back, Andrews agrees that Lattimore could be ready by the end of July.
