2013 NFL Draft best available: Jesse Williams tops defensive tackles left

USA TODAY Sports

Jesse Williams is the top remaining defensive tackle heading into day three of the 2013 NFL Draft.

The first three rounds of the 2013 NFL Draft are in the books, and after a surprising lack of defensive tackles at the top-end of the first round, many of the consensus top players are now off the board heading into day three. Officially, there are 10 defensive tackles off the board thus far, with seven of them going on day two.

Sharrif Floyd fell to No. 23 overall in the first round, which was shocking, but day two did see some big names go off the board. The biggest name was Ohio State defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins, who went to the New York Giants at No. 49 overall.

Other big names who went on day two include Georgia's John Jenkins and Missouri Southern State's Brandon Williams.

There are still some good names on the board, though. Among the remaining defensive tackles, there are a few better-suited to playing nose tackle in a 3-4 scheme, as those guys typically go later than their 4-3 counterparts. The biggest remaining name is Jesse Williams out of Alabama.

Williams is suited to be a 3-4 nose tackle, and at 323 pounds, it's easy to see why. He might be the biggest name of any defensive line position at this point as well, alongside Texas' Alex Okafor, who is a defensive end. He became an immediate starter with the Crimson Tide as a junior after transferring from Arizona Western College. He finished his senior season with 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack and 37 tackles as the very definition of an aggressive space-eater.

Florida State's Everett Dawkins is an intriguing name as well. He doesn't have the stats befitting one of the top players, but that's only due to the fact that Florida State boasts an incredibly deep rotation along their defensive line. Dawkins is a great interior pass rusher though, with a strong first step and he could be an asset to whichever team lands him on day three.

Below is a list of some of the top remaining names at the defensive tackle position.

Jesse Williams, Alabama
Everett Dawkins, Florida St.
Montori Hughes, Tennessee-Martin
Kwame Geathers, Georgia
Akeem Spence, Illinois
Anthony McCloud, Florida St.
Cory Grissom, South Florida
Josh Boyd, Mississippi St.
