2014 NFL Draft cornerback rankings

Scott Olmos-USA TODAY Sports

Can Bradley Roby maintain the top spot among eligible cornerbacks?

The 2013 NFL Draft had incredible depth at the cornerback position. The 2014 class has high-level talent at the top, but will only match 2013 in depth if a few players show development during the upcoming college football season.

Ohio State's Bradley Roby is the star of the cornerback class. He has shown the potential to be a shutdown cornerback in the NFL but ran into a bit of legal trouble this offseason. Roby is a solid bet to declare early for the draft and may not be unseated as the draft's top cover man.

Following close on Roby's heels is Jason Verrett of TCU. After nearly quitting football all together a few years ago, Verrett has established himself as the premiere cornerback in the Big 12 with his ability to close on the ball and make instinctive plays on deep passes.

Beyond the top two, there are plenty of question marks. Florida's Loucheiz Purifoy has all of the athletic ability in the world, but needs to put it together. Oregon's Ifo Ekpre-Olomu needs to do a better job of locating the football in the air. A pair of Big 12 cornerbacks, Justin Gilbert and Aaron Colvin, need to show that they have more than just immense physical tools to make an impact at the next level.

Some potential risers in this class include Andre Hal of Vanderbilt, Charles Sayer of Ole Miss and Antone Exum of Virginia Tech.
