Matt Ryan injury: Falcons QB has sprained AC joint

The Falcons lost in the NFC Championship and their star quarterback walked away with an injury. Here's the latest on Matt Ryan's shoulder.

The Atlanta Falcons were unable to advance to the Super Bowl after losing 28-24 to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, but if they had moved on, their star quarterback wouldn't have been in the best shape for the biggest stage in football.

Matt Ryan reportedly sprained the AC joint in his non-throwing shoulder late in the fourth quarter. Linebacker Ahmad Brooks landed hard on top of Ryan after a throw, and the Falcons quarterback was clearly in pain after getting up.

Ryan came in for the final play of the game, which was presumably supposed to be a Hail Mary. He only threw the ball about 20 yards, and some questioned if Luke McCown should have been in simply to launch it as far as possible.

Atlanta is waiting to see if Ryan needs an MRI on Monday. He will likely miss the Pro Bowl now, leaving the door open for Russell Wilson to step in.
