During Super Bowl week, everybody tries to get in on the media frenzy. The anticipation for the commercials, crazy prop bets and things of that nature heat up and now, even other sports leagues are getting their name in the mix. On Friday, the NHL released a poll given to present and past players in the league, asking which team will come out the victor.
Only 18 players were polled, but the results are overwhelming in one team's favor: the San Francisco 49ers. Fourteen players picked Colin Kaepernick to lead the 49ers to Lombardi Trophy No. 6 in just his 10th career start, meaning only four players picked the Baltimore Ravens to win the franchise's second title.
Shane Doan of the Phoenix Coyotes, Mike Richards of the Los Angeles Kings and Tyler Seguin of the Boston Bruins were the currently active players to pick the Ravens to win it. Doan said that 49ers kicker David Akers will miss a game-winning field goal at the last second.
The one inactive player to vote also went with the Ravens, as it happens. That player was NHL great Wayne Gretzky, widely considered to be the greatest player of all time.
Still, the 49ers were the favorites in the poll. The official post has the scores picked by the players, and they have the 49ers winning by an average of 7.3 points.
