And now the Eagles' starting quarterback position is Michael Vick's to lose. Again.
Andy Reid confirmed after the Eagles' 36-17 loss to the Titans that Vick will be the Eagles' starter for their Week 9 game against the Colts. That gives Vick time for his injured ribs to heal, though the top-rated passer in the NFC admits that he won't know how healthy he is until he gets hit.
He'll replace Kevin Kolb, whose run of strong play was halted against the Titans. Kolb went 26-of-48 against the rugged Titans defense, and threw two interceptions.
But all indications are that this is not a performance-related benching, but one that has a lot to do with Vick returning to full health.

Eagles head coach Andy Reid confirmed on Wednesday that Kevin Kolb would start Sunday's game against the Titans. The setup sounds to be similar to last week when Kolb was the starter and Michael Vick was a backup.
The news shouldn't come as much of a surprise since Reid said earlier this week that there's a "pretty good chance" Kolb will start.
Jason La Canfora of NFL Network writes that he expects Vick should be able to see some action as he recovers from a rib injury. Initial reports on Vick had him missing several weeks. Sunday's game, if he does not play, will be the third game he's missed.
Kolb meanwhile has been fantastic in relief even garnering NFC player of the week honors for the second time in his fifth career start.
The Eagles have a bye in Week 8 so they could choose to sit Vick and get him another full week of rest.

Michael Vick was the Eagles emergency third quarterback in Week 6 against the Falcons. It looks like he's headed for the same role in Week 7 against the Titans.
Eagles head coach Andy Reid said on Monday that if he had to guess today it would be Kevin Kolb, and not Vick, starting in Week 7.
"Michael is making progress, but if he had to play today he wouldn't be able to play, he'd be able to practice a little bit but he's not full speed yet," Reid said. "If he felt like he does today, it would be a reach. . . . There's a pretty good chance Kevin's the guy this week."
Kolb has been lighting it up in Vick's absence the last two weeks and the Eagles have a Week 8 bye so this move would seem to make the most sense.

Michael Vick has been telling reporters that he's feeling better and I imagine he's saying the same to head coach Andy Reid.
The Eagles however have decided to go with Kevin Kolb as Reid announced on Friday that Kolb would be the starter against the Falcons on Sunday.
Original reports on Vick suggested he would be out 2-6 weeks. This is the second week so anything they could get from him would be a bonus but it shouldn't be expected that he'll play at all.

Eagles QB Michael Vick has been out the last week and a half with a rib injury and it doesn't look like he'll be returning in Week 6.
Vick did not practice on Thursday making is seemingly less likely he'll be available to play on Sunday.
Initial reports had his injury pegged at 2-6 weeks but it's a good sign that we're even questioning whether he can play in Week 6.

It's looking less and less likely Eagles QB Michael Vick will be able to come back from his rib injury this weekend.
The Eagles play the Falcons in Week 6 but both Fox Sports' Jay Glazer and Adam Caplan predict he will not play this week. Glazer describes it as a "long shot" and Caplan says it's doubtful he'll play.
That means QB Kevin Kolb will likely get another start.
Assuming Vick is out on Sunday, you have to wonder just how long he'll be out. The Eagles travel to Tennessee to play the Titans in Week 7 and then have their bye in Week 8. It'll be interesting to see if the Eagles are willing to sit him another week in order to give him even more rest with the bye coming up.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Michael Vick will be out of Sunday nights game against San Francisco due to cartilage damage in his ribs. With a lack of faith in Kevin Kolb, rumors are beginning to swirl that the Eagles may call on their former QB, Jeff Garcia, who is currently slumming it down in the UFL.
Over the past 24 hours, here have been rumors swirling that former Eagle (and former 49er, for that matter) Jeff Garcia could be brought back into the fold for his third stint in Philadelphia. Garcia is currently playing for the UFL’s Omaha Nighthawks, but would be allowed to return to the NFL with the UFL commissioner’s approval and a buyout fee of $150,000 (paid from the Eagles to the Nighthawks). When questioned about a possible return, the 40 year old Garcia downplayed the idea, saying:
“I really don’t want to comment on anything right now because it’s just talk. We’ll see what transpires over the next couple of days.”
Kolb will get the start but if he gets injured, the Eagles only have rookie Mike Kafka to fall back on. Even if they don’t acquire Garcia, expect them to make a move ASAP for a veteran.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Michael Vick will be out of Sunday nights game against San Francisco. Vick suffered cartilage damage to his ribs in this past Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins.
A rib cartilage injury will prevent Eagles QB Michael Vick from playing Sunday at SF, according to source familiar with situation.
This means Kevin Kolb will back in the starting lineup this Sunday against San Francisco. In an interview with WXTG Radio 102.1 The Game and The Bruce Smith Show, Vick comments on the severity of his injury:
"There is some cartilage damage up in there and a small fracture up in there, so maybe a week, maybe two weeks. We'll have to see. I've got some cartilage damage up in there, in the upper area of my ribs. I just have to work through it. I've always been a quick healer. It won't be no more than one, two weeks hopefully. Hopefully."
The only other quarterback that the Eagles have on the roster is rookie Mike Kafka to fall back on if something were to happen to Kolb. Look for the Eagles to possibly add veteran free agent to act as a stop gap while Vick is out.

Michael Vick has rib cartilage damage and is “day-to-day,” according to head coach Andy Reid.
During his Monday press conference, Reid did not seem to know how long Vick will be out, and said that the team will see how the QB progresses through the week. The cartilage damage is near the top of the rib cage, close to the sternum.
Vick was injured during the first half of the Eagles’ loss to the Redskins on Sunday when he was sandwiched between two Washington defenders.
Kevin Kolb appears to be the No. 1 QB if Vick cannot play Week 5.

Glazer also reported that Vick's injury involves both his ribs and chest, and that Vick is "still in a lot of pain." He will be examined further on Monday.

Vick suffered the injury on the first quarter run you can see in this video:

Michael Vick's redemption may have taken a serious hit in the literal sense.
Vick got sandwiched between two Redskins on a run near the goal line late in the first quarter, was slow to get up, and left the game in obvious pain. His injury has been reported as a rib injury and he has gone back to the locker room for x-rays. His return is questionable.
Kevin Kolb has come on in relief.
