Colt Brennan Upgraded To Stable Condition After Car Accident

The football world had reason to worry on Friday, as we learned that ex-record-setting Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan was hospitalized following a serious car accident. The 27-year-old Brennan, who most recently played for the Oakland Raiders, has been upgraded to stable condition on Saturday, says his father:

Brennan's father, Terry, said, "This is our worst nightmare," noting his son suffered cracked ribs, an injury to his left collarbone and possible head trauma. "You always worry about safety, whether you're in Hawaii or on the mainland."

[...] He said his son was in stable condition and did not have life-threatening injuries.

Brennan was a passenger in a car driven by his girlfriend, who reportedly told police that the accident happened because her brakes malfunctioned. The car traveled across the center line and struck a car driving in the opposite direction.

Thankfully, though everyone involved sustained injuries that required hospitalization, no injuries were life-threatening. We certainly wish the best for Colt as he recovers, and hope he can make it back to the football field sooner rather than later.

Colt Brennan's Head Injuries Not Life-Threatening, According To His Father

Though Colt Brennan is listed in serious condition with head trauma, broken ribs and a broken collarbone that resulted from a head-on car accident this morning, his injuries are not life threatening, according to his father. Brennan was a passenger in a car that crossed into oncoming traffic this morning in Hawaii, striking another vehicle.

After receiving all the care he could in a local Kona hospital, Brennan was flown to Honolulu for further care earlier this afternoon. The driver of the car was also transported to a local Kona hospital while the driver of the oncoming car was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital.

Brennan’s father, Terry Brennan, spoke to a local TV station in Hawaiithis evening and relayed an update on Brennan’s injuries and the care he’s receiving in Honolulu.

“I talked to the doctor, the doctor from Kona,” Terry Brennan told KHON-TV. “He was saying ‘Hey, we’ve done our what we could do over here, we think it’s best he gets over to Oahu.’”

When asked if Colt Brennan’s injuries were life-threatening, Terry Brennan said, " No. … They’re still monitoring the issues with the head injuries."

As with any head injury, it’s still a very serious situation. Still, the fact that Brennan’s father is confident the injuries aren’t life threatening is good news. Brennan’s family will reportedly travel from California to Oahu early Saturday morning.

Jones was Brennan's college coach at Hawaii before leaving to take the same position at SMU shortly after Brennan graduated. The two have maintained a close relationship and Brennan credits much of his success to Jones' willingness to give him a chance at Hawaii.

Thoughts go out to Brennan as we continue to hope for the best for him. Stay tuned to our StoryStream for details as they continue to become available.

Colt Brennan Injured In Car Wreck; Ex-NFL Quarterback Reportedly In Serious Condition

On Friday afternoon, free agent NFL quarterback Colt Brennan was involved in a car accident. He has reportedly been taken to a hospital and listed in serious condition. From Hawaii's KHON-2:

Colt Brennan injured in vehicle crash on the Big Island. Reportedly in serious condition at a Kona hospital.

Police sources say the car Colt Brennan was in crossed the centerline and hit another vehicle head on.

Brennan, age 27, was drafted in the sixth round of the 2008 draft by the Washington Redskins after a record-breaking collegiate career as Hawaii's quarterback. He looked very sharp in the 2008 preseason for the Redskins, but injuries have prevented him from throwing a single pass in the NFL regular season. The Oakland Raiders signed him in August of this year only to cut him in September.

We certainly hope the best for Brennan. As soon as we learn more on his condition, we'll update this StoryStream.
