The deadline for teams to issue a waiver wire claim on Randy Moss will come at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. Moss was officially waived by the Vikings on Tuesday and entered the waiver wire. His future will now be decided by 31 other NFL teams in the order of worst to first.
Moss is expected to draw a "boatload" of claims from various NFL teams. He's too talented for some team on the verge of being playoff contenders not to take a chance on.
There are plenty of theories floating around on who may or may not claim Moss. The Rams and Seahawks both reportedly made a run at Vincent Jackson so you have to think they're candidates for Moss. Both teams are also in the playoff hunt through Week 8. Past history says the Redskins will be involved in any big-name player out there. The Raiders can't be counted out either even with Moss's last debacle in Oakland. The Dolphins may want to block him from the Jets. Speaking of the Jets, they were rumored to have met with Moss on Tuesday, although that's being disputed. The Chiefs have reason for a guy like Moss but would he fit in the locker room? Then there's the Patriots, who traded Moss at the beginning of the month. It would be Bill Belichick style to bring him back a month later at no cost.
Moss has a $6.4 million contract so whoever claims him will also claim his contract. It runs through just the 2010 season.
We'll be finding out in a matter of hours who -- if anyone -- claimed Randy Moss off the waiver wire.
