Sam Bradford was sharp on Sunday. And the 49ers aren't all that sharp to begin with.
St. Louis' stellar rookie quarterback threw for 292 yards and a touchdown, and the Rams defense kept both Troy Smith and Alex Smith from getting into a groove in the Rams' 25-17 win.
The Smiths, not related, combined to complete just 17 of 34 passes, and Alex Smith's fumble late in the fourth quarter scuttled a potential San Francisco comeback.
With the win, the Rams moved to 7-8 and kept their playoff and NFC West hopes alive. With a win over the Seahawks next week — at notoriously hostile Qwest Field, it should be noted — the Rams can win the division and claim a playoff spot at 8-8.
For the 49ers, the loss is the death knell for their playoff hopes. San Francisco was officially eliminated from playoff contention after falling to 5-10, and will now be playing for no more than 2011 NFL Draft positioning and coach Mike Singletary's job.
