Michael Vick, DeSean Jackson, LeSean McCoy Among Eagles Inactives Vs. Cowboys

As expected, Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick will not play in today’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. Vick was banged up last week, suffering a minor quad injury, and had a very short week to recover, so Philly’s playing it safe and holding him out of a game they don’t need to win. Vick missed practice throughout the week.

Vick also missed a handful of games in midseason with a chest injury.

WR DeSean Jackson, RB LeSean McCoy, DE Trent Cole, CB Asante Samuel, tackle Winston Justice, DT Trevor Laws, and LB Stewart Bradley are also listed as inactives, according to NBC Philadelphia’s John Clark.

Kevin Kolb will get the start against the Cowboys, and all sorts of Eagles will get some extra playing time heading into Philadelphia’s playoff game against either the Green Bay Packers, New York Giants, or Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Michael Vick Not Starting; Kevin Kolb Gets The Nod For Eagles Vs. Cowboys

The Philadelphia Eagles have nothing to play for next week against the Dallas Cowboys as they've locked up the No. 3 seed in the NFL playoffs and can't move up or down. QB Michael Vick wasn't expected to play the entire game for that reason and that he was dinged up in the Eagles Week 16 loss to the Minnesota Vikings is more reason to give him some rest.

With that in mind, the Eagles will start QB Kevin Kolb this weekend, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. This is the news many of us expected.

The lack of any meaning in this game and Vick being banged up makes this an easy decision. Andy Reid suggested earlier this week that even if this game meant something he's not sure Vick would be able to play with a quad injury.

The Eagles didn't practice on Wednesday but their estimated practice reports says Vick wouldn't have practiced. Coming off the week from Tuesday's game, Philly fans probably shouldn't expect to see much, if any, of Michael Vick against the Cowboys.

Michael Vick Injury Keeps Him Out Of Eagles Practice Wednesday

Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick was banged up in the loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday night and early indications are that he won't play next week against the Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles are locked into the third seed in the NFL playoff picture so they may be resting players anyway but Andy Reid suggested this week that Vick's injury may keep him out even if the game head meaning.

The Eagles didn't practice Wednesday because of the Tuesday night game against the Vikings but they were still required to issue an estimated practice report and placed Vick under "did not practice".

We can't glean much from Vick's absence considering the Eagles didn't even practice but it sure doesn't seem like he'll be playing this weekend. It also doesn't seem like many of the non-injured Eagles starters will be playing.

The Eagles play the Cowboys this weekend and they are currently locked into the third seed in the NFL playoffs unable to move up or down so the game has no bearing on the NFL playoff picture.

Michael Vick's Injury May Keep Him Out Against Cowboys In Week 17

The Philadelphia Eagles suffered a loss on Tuesday Night Football against the Minnesota Vikings but in the grand scheme of things it may not hurt them as much as you'd think. They'll now have to play in the wildcard round but because of the loss, the Eagles have now locked themselves into the third seed in the NFL playoffs. In other words, there's nothing to play for next week against the Dallas Cowboys.

That's good news for QB Michael Vick, who suffered an injury against the Vikings (but didn't come out). Though Eagles coach Andy Reid was vague on Vick's status for next weekend, it doesn't sound like he'll play.

"I’m not even sure he could get back from what he has now, the quad [contusion]," Reid said. "It was painful yesterday and it as painful today. If he had to play today, he couldn't. It's tight, it's sore. He'll be all right down the road."

If this was a must-win game, it's possible Vick tries to play, and the injury is worsened. But with nothing to play for, there's no reason to play him. Reid indicated in his news conference this week that he isn't sure how much any of the Eagles starters will be playing, Vick included.

"As far as how we play the guys, I haven’t finalized that, what I’m going to do there. I’m looking at it now. I wanted to make sure we took care of this game and got it past us. You got to look at what’s at stake if you play them, injury-wise. Some guys need the play-time, some guys need the rest-time. I got to look at that. You still want to win the game. I still haven’t gotten that far. I will, right after this meeting."

I could see the starters playing for a series or two but beyond that it doesn't make much sense to keep them in. Check out Bleeding Green Nation to see what Eagles fans are saying about Vick's injury.
