The Seahawks qualified for the NFL Playoffs in manner befitting the first team with a losing record to do so. They defeated the St. Louis Rams in a snoozy, field-goal heavy, 16-6 slogfest.
Other than a Mike Williams' touchdown catch in the first quarter, this game was field goals-a-plenty with the five final scores of the game coming from kickers. Olindo Mare kicked three field goals in the second half in order to secure the victory for the Seahawks.
Charlie Whitehurst didn't wow anyone but he did what was asked of him in lieu of the injured Matt Hasslebeck. He threw for 192 yards on 22-of-36 with a touchdown and no interceptions. Marshawn Lynch led the Seattle rushing attack with 75 yards on 20 carries. Ruvell Martin was the top receiver with 85 yards on 3 catches.
Olindo Mare finished the game with ten points after going three for three on field goals and kicking an extra point.
Sam Bradford finished the game 19-of-36 for 155 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. Since they've been eliminated, the Rams will get the fifteenth pick in the draft. They may want to try and get Bradford a receiver as he's in serious need.
The Seahawks will host defending champion New Orleans, the NFC's fifth seed, on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. (et). Feel free to begin complaining about the fact that a 7-9 team is hosting an 11-5 one, or perhaps complain about the complainers. Whichever you like.
