Steelers rookie Maurkice Pouncey exited Pittsburgh's AFC Championship victory over the New York Jets with an ankle injury that, at the time, looked pretty serious. Pouncey later told reporters that the injury won't keep him out of the 2011 Super Bowl against the Green Bay Packers.
Well....maybe it will. No one's talking -- including Pouncey -- but reporters spotted him in a cast. Not a walking boot -- but a cast. He was also on crutches.
Pouncey declined comment to reporters but the news has to be concerning to the Steelers. Albert Breer of NFL Network reported he was "told that team would cast an ankle, or put one in a boot, as procedure to immoblize it."
The bottomline is that we don't know what it means for his status on Feb. 6. Pouncey's been one of the best rookies this year so his absence could certainly hurt the Steelers. We should learn more next week when the Steelers arrive in Dallas for Super Bowl week.
Check out Behind The Steel Curtain for more leading up to the game.
