Julius Peppers Injury: Sprained MCL Has Status Of Bears DE Uncertain

Julius Peppers went down with an injury in the Chicago Bears Monday Night Football game against the Detroit Lions but later returned to finish the game. According to the Chicago Tribune, the injury he suffered was a sprained MCL.

The Bears play the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football in Week 6 and it's unclear if Peppers will be available. The report status that the severity of the sprain is unclear but it's not believed to be serious.

MCL sprains can keep players out anywhere from a week to several weeks so it's possible he misses Sunday night's game against the Vikings. But, as the Chicago Tribune reports, he has yet to be ruled out of that game so we really don't know.

The Bears will practice on Wednesday in preparation for the Vikings game and we'll have a better idea of Peppers' status then. By Friday, they'll have to declare his status and I would guess, if they're uncertain if he'll play, he woud be listed as questionable.

Julius Peppers Injury: Bears DE Back On The Field

Chicago Bears defensive end went down with a knee injury earlier in the game. He was worked on by trainers on the sideline and wound up making his way to the locker room. It was reported that Peppers return to the game was questionable, but he's apparently back on the football field and playing.

The Bears are going to need Julius Peppers to aide their pass rush while trying to slow down Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford. When Peppers was out of the game, the Lions torched the Bears with a long 73-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Calvin Johnson. The Bears currently trail the Lions 7-3 and will be looking to stop the Lions with Peppers back on the field.

Julius Peppers Injury: Bears DE Hurts Knee, Questionable To Return

Chicago Bears star defensive end Julius Peppers was injured a few series prior to the Detroit Lions scoring drive, prior to the Calvin Johnson touchdown reception. Peppers went down in pain with a knee injury and left the field. According the ESPN Monday Night Football sideline reporter Suzy Kolber, Peppers was garnering a lot of attention from the trainers while on the trainer table.

A few moments later, Julius Peppers was making his way back to the locker room and it was noted that his return to the game was questionable. If Peppers can't come back, it will be a huge blow to the Chicago Bears defense. They'll need to get pressure on Matt Stafford and if they don't, more things like Calvin Johnson's long touchdown will happen. Again and again.
