Another week, another fine. For the second consecutive week, Chicago Bears safety Brandon Meriweather has been fined for a hit. This time, it's for a late shot on Nate Burleson in the Bears Monday Night Football game against the Detroit Lions.
Matthew Stafford threw a pass targeted for Burleson and it was intercepted by a Detroit player, who immediately went down. Burleson touched him, to rule him down. A couple seconds after Burleson touched the defender down, Meriweather came flying in and popped Burleson. It was clearly a cheap shot as the hit came after the play was obviously over.
You can view video of the play here.
Meriweather is getting the reputation of a dirty player, a reputation that dates back to the 2010 season. He was fined $20,000 last week for a hit and now $25,000 for the hit in the Lions game.
